Erdoğan’s two-faced partisan media: How are 85 million people being ridiculed in Turkey?

It has been more than six years (June 2015 elections is the turning point) that Erdoğan has grown into a political giant who runs Turkey as he please, as if he runs his own family company. There is no doubt that the partisan media in Turkey have key role in shaping and feeding up one-man authority. That is, Erdoğan owes his ‘success’ and comfort to the partisan media.

How has a humble politician grown into a giant political CEO?

Turkey is being ruled by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s AKP (Justice and Development Party) since November 2002. Erdoğan had been supported by overwhelming majority during his first two terms. Consequently, he and his party had a chance to made substantial improvements in Turkish democracy. For example, Turkey’s candidacy for full membership to the European Union was approved during Erdoğan administration. Similar progresses have been witnessed during Erdoğan’s first years as the President of Turkey.

However, it is now clearly understood that Erdoğan has taken all those steps not for the sake of democracy, but for securing his place and for removing his political opponents. Unfortunately, he has reached his goals years ago. Almost all private media companies & channels are under his control, not to speak of national broadcaster TRT which has long ago turned into back yard of AKP and Erdoğan family.

Erdoğan’s two-faced partisan media – a dangerous lie machine

The partisan media has two basic missions:

  1. Erdoğan’s partisan media is accustomed to professionally deceive Turkish citizens and hide political mistakes of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
  2. Another duty of the partisan media is to systematically run smear campaigns against Erdoğan’s political rivals.

Let’s analyze these two missions with the example of Joe Biden

1 – Deceive Turkish citizens by glorifying Recep Tayyip Erdoğan or ‘Erdoğan’s Turkey’

Joe Biden - Erdoğan meeting - partisan media

The point of departure for this mission is that Erdoğan is perfect and Turkey under his ruling is the best of its history and that Turkey has never had such a prestige in international area bla bla bla…

In order to successfully achieve this mission, the partisan media implements systematic perception management methods. For instance, any meeting between the President of USA, Joe Biden and Erdoğan covers all the headlines and TV channels features this meeting days before and days after the meeting. The message here is very simple: Erdoğan and Erdoğan‘s Turkey is in the champions league! Erdoğan is negotiating with world powers, which means Erdoğan and Erdoğan’s Turkey is on the stage between the world powers!

What happens If Joe Biden meets Erdoğan’s political rivals or gives an speech that seemingly backs the political opposition in Turkey?

Then mission-2 is activated for the partisan media.

2 – Run smear campaigns against Erdoğan’s political rivals or the political opposition in Turkey

Current US President Joe Biden made some remarks on December 16, 2019, before he emerged as the Democratic candidate.

US should take a new approach to the autocrat President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and support opposition parties in Turkey.

Biden also said that he is “very concerned” about Mr. Erdogan’s approach to Kurds in Turkey, his partial military co-operation with Russia, and access to US airfields in the country, a NATO ally.

“What I think we should be doing is taking a very different approach to him now, making it clear that we support opposition leadership.”

“He (Erdoğan) has to pay a price.”

Joe Biden’s comments on Turkey

None of the opposition party or opposition leader in Turkey was aware of these remarks before they went viral nationwide.

However, the partisan media run a smear campaign as if all the opposition parties and leaders were in alliance with the “evil USA” and its former Vice President Joe Biden.

So, basically when Joe Biden meets Erdoğan; Joe Biden is the president of the super power USA.

However, when Joe Biden criticizes Erdoğan or favors the opposition; Joe Biden is the “evil president of the evil power USA”, who is in alliance with Turkey’s “evil political opposition” in order to defeat “our beloved supreme leader” Erdoğan and thereby to break Erdoğan’s super power Turkey into pieces.

Biden – Erdoğan meeting in late October, 2021

The news that “Erdoğan will meet President Biden in G-20 summit which will be held on October 30-31, 2021” has already covered all the headlines in the partisan media now.
